NANAIMO – The Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League has extended their pause in the North division to the entire league.
A scheduled Nanaimo versus Oceanside game on Thursday was cancelled in the immediate wake of new orders from Dr. Bonnie Henry. Three games were played Friday, Nov. 20.
Games are now postponed league wide until further notice.
The PHO outlined new restrictions on Thursday, Nov.19 recommending all sports leagues err of the side of caution and stay close to home until December 7, 2020.
The new guidelines from the province state all games, competitions, training and practices can continue but without spectators and have to be restricted to a local community.
The VIJHL stated on its website it will evaluate the situation and await instructions from the province and BC Hockey and hopes to resume games soon.
This marks the second pause in play for the League this month.
Games in the North division were stopped on Nov. 10 after a confirmed COVID–19 exposure at Dover Bay Secondary School in Nanaimo.
The Nanaimo Minor Hockey Association has also halted play until Dec. 7. No decision has been made yet with the BCHL which is slated to resume games on Dec.4.
